Fourth seed Petra Martic defeated the Czech Republic’s Linda Fruhvirtova in the opening round on Tuesday.
The World No. 41 broke Fruhvirtova twice in the first set to win it in just 34 minutes. She also broke early in the second set but the World no. 77 broke back to draw level. The Croatian broke a second time in the 11th game and then served out the match in the next game for a 6-2, 7-5 victory.
The 31-year-old Martic improved her season record to 33-19. She had won her only title of the season in Lausanne, which was also the second of her career.
Martic, who was a quarterfinalist in Tokyo, will be aiming to reach the last eight for the fifth time this year.

Uchijima Gets Revenge Over Rakhimova
Moyuka Uchijima got a quick revenge over Kamila Rakhimova as the Japanese ousted the Russian in the opening round of the Jasmin Open.
Rakhimova had beaten the Japanes 6-1, 6-0 at an ITF tournament in Bronx in August, but Uchijima put that defeat behind and ousted the Russian 6-3, 6-3 on Tuesday.
The world no. 124, who had entered the main draw through the qualifiers, saw Rakhimova come back from a break down twice in the first set, but she broke the Russian two more times in the set to win the last three games and take a one-set-to-love lead.
In the second set, Rakhimova had an early break but the 21-year-old soon took charge of the contest and broke two more times for a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
Uchijima is 46-20 across levels this year. She has featured in four ITF finals this year, three of them on hard courts. She won three titles, including one on clay, and finished runner-up once.
