Jabeur Breezes Past Rodina

World no. 2 Ons Jabeur needed just 55 minutes to dispatch Evgeniya Rodina in the second round of the Jasmin Open on Thursday.

The top seed Tunisian, who is playing a tournament for the first time since her runner-up finish at the U.S. Open, continued to dominate for the second straight match to reach the quarterfinals.

Jabeur didn’t face a single break point against the Russian on Thursday, but converted 3 of 3 break points in the first set and 1 of 4 in the second to ease to a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

The Tunisian had beaten the United States’ Ann Li in the opening round. She wasn’t broken in the first round either as she saved 8 of 8 break points and converted 4 of 7 on her way to a 6-2, 6-3 victory.

Thanks to the two victories, Jabeur improved to 46-14 this season. In what’s been the best season of her career, Jabeur has played in six finals, winning the titles in Madrid and Berlin. Of the four runner-up finishes, two came in the Grand Slams in Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.

Liu Knocks Out Siniakova

Claire Liu ended Katerina Siniakova’s six-match winning streak, beating the Slovenia Open champion in the second round in Monastir.

The 22-year-old American improved her season record to 28-21 across levels. She was a finalist at the Rabat Open and will be playing in her third tour-level quarterfinal of the year on Friday.

The World no. 73 showed great resilience in the first set against Siniakova, as she broke back thrice to stay in touch with the Czech. The closely contested set ended with the American breaking for a fourth time in the final game, in which she converted a third set point.

The second set too witnessed plenty of service breaks, but it was Liu, who had built a sizeable lead of 5-1. Siniakova broke a second time to close the gap but it was the American, who got her eighth break in the match in the next game to seal the contest 7-5, 6-2.

Although it was a second straight straight sets win for Liu, she was a bit more convincing in the earlier round , where she beat Ana Konjuh 6-3, 6-2. But Siniakova was definitely a tougher opponent, particularly after she had won a title last week. Can the American keep the momentum going against the top seed?

Jabeur v Liu Prediction and Tip

Jabeur is the superior player and has been in terrific form this season. She is chasing her third title of the year and it won’t be easy for Liu. Expect the Tunisian to ease into the semifinals.
