Veronika Kudermetova v Sloane Stephens Head to Head
In their only previous meeting on the clay courts of Charleston last year, Kudermetova had registered a straight-set win over Stephens.

This has been the season that has seen Kudermetova climb up the rankings charts and after yet another solid showing last week in Monastir, the Russian finds herself ranked at her career-best of 12th in the world.
Kudermetova would have probably wanted to do a lot better than the semifinal appearance at the Monastir Open, especially since she was a whopping 2/5 favourite coming up against Alize Cornet in that encounter.
Unfortunately for her, she suffered a straight-set defeat to Cornet to go out.
The flip side to that is Kudermetova has continued in her quest to win a few matches every tournament, which includes a semifinal appearance at the Tokyo Open the week before that and a four round entry at the US Open.
She starts off against a tricky opponent but one whose inconsistencies have led to a steep fall in her rankings.

Stephens’ Break for Clay
Strangely enough, Stephens opted to participate in the Parma Open, a clay court competition, between the end of the US Open Series and the start of the last month of WTA tennis for the season.
And like has been the case with Stephens for most part of the remaining season, the American fell away to an early loss in Parma too.
Sure, Stephens can surprise at times – there was a title win in Guadalajara earlier this year and then a quarterfinal appearance at Roland-Garros to go with that. But when you win just five of the remaining 19 matches at the highest level, it’s really difficult to back a player like that.
Especially coming up against one of the most consistent in present times.
Kudermetova v Stephens Prediction and Tip
Kudermetova’s 1/3 to win this and while exhaustion could be a concern, that is probably the only one that the Russian would be facing as she hopes to down Stephens in straight sets.
