Guido Pella v Juan Ignacio Londero Head to Head

The pair have met three times before and Pella has won each time, although their last meeting was as long ago as 5 years. Like the Córdoba event, all their meetings have been on clay.

Pella – Looking to Win his First Final

Guido Pella, the world number 59, was seeded 8 for this tournament but has fought his way through to this stage whilst higher ranked players have fallen by the wayside.

Albert-Ramos Viñolas of Spain was disposed of comfortably in the last 16 before Pella secured an impressive win over compatriot Diego Schwartzman in the quarter-finals, beating the world number 20 and third seed for this tournament in straight sets.

However, he found his semi-final opponent, Pablo Gabriel Tito Cuevas Urroz a much tougher proposition, and it took three sets before he could finally get the better of the Uruguayan.

However, having got to this stage, he will finally want to secure his first ATP title, having been a beaten finalist three times before, most recently in the Croatia Open last July, when he lost out to Italian Marco Cecchinato.

Lontero – Unchartered Territory

For 25 year old Lontero, even reaching the final in Córdoba is an achievement in itself, the first time he has managed such a feat on the senior ATP tour. Despite turning pro in 2010, it has taken him until now to reach his highest career ranking of 112 – a win here might propel him into the top 100 for the first time.

He has already had a good week. Given a wild card entry into the tournament, he has yet to drop a set in Córdoba disposing of Nicholas Jarry in the round of 32, Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego in the last 16, and countryman Pedro Cachin in the quarter-finals. He then went on thrash Frederico Delbonis 6-1, 6-0, in the semi-final on Saturday night.

Sunday could see him cap his week off with his first major trophy.

Pella v Londero Predictions & Tips

As the higher seeded and ranked player, Pella will start the favourite as odds-on favourite at 2-1 on. However, as the underdog, Londero is likely to have the crowd on his side, and, given he is yet to drop a set this week, should not be underestimated. He can be backed at 24/13.
