They haven’t met on the tour before, but met once at a Futures event 11 years ago with Evans winning that match.

Evans Was a Semifinalist in 2020
Over the last one month Daniel Evans has featured in four tournaments. He reached the semifinals in San Diego, made early exits from Seoul and Tokyo and then reached the quarterfinals in Antwerp last week before going down fighting to eventual champion Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Evans is 27-25 overall this season, and the one-time tour-level champion from three finals is yet to reach a title clash this year. However, he did win a Challenger title though, clinching the title on grass in Nottingham.
Evans produced his best tennis at the Canadian Masters this year. The World no. 26 defeated three players ranked above him, including Andrey Rublev, on his way to a final four debut in Montreal, but his run ended with a defeat to Pablo Carreno Busta.
The 32-year-old was also a semifinalist in Sydney and San Diego this season. Can he embark on another strong run in Vienna? He is 3-2 from the past two appearances in Vienna, with his best coming in 2020, when he reached the semifinals on his tournament debut.

Otte Enters as a Lucky Loser
Oscar Otte has been struggling recently and he came into the Vienna qualifiers with a 2-9 record from his past 11 matches.
The German ousted Jiri Lehecka 6-3, 6-4 in the first qualifying round, but was beaten by Thiago Monteiro in a three-set second qualifying round on Sunday. He still found a way into the main draw as a lucky loser.
The world no. 54, who reached his first-ever doubles final in Sofia, was solid during the summer, reaching three semifinals in Munich, Stuttgart and Halle and a quarterfinal in Belgrade. Thanks to those performances early in the season, he not only broke into the top 100, but peaked to a career-high of no. 36 in June.
However, as the tour moved to the North American hard courts, Otte slowly started losing momentum. He has been struggling for the last two months, as a result of which he has also slipped down the rankings.
Things don’t look too inspiring at the moment and the lucky loser may suffer another first round win, following his opening round defeat last week in Stockholm.
