Felix Auger-Aliassime v Marc-Andrea Huesler
A very interesting round-one matchup will happen in Basel as the red-hot Auger-Aliassime takes on native hopeful Huesler. The Swiss player is enjoying some good weeks on the ATP Tour as he recently won his maiden ATP trophy in Sofia by beating Holger Rune in the final.
He has a powerful serve and likes to attack which makes indoors a very good surface for him. Playing on native soil in Switzerland will certainly make him even more inspired than usual and he’ll need every bit of it against Auger-Aliassime. Huesler is 44-26 on the year but he faces an even better Felix.
The Canadian is 49-25 on the year and 8-0 in his last eight matches with two trophies. Obviously, he’s the better player and he’ll most likely win this one but I do think Heusler can keep it close. Expect Auger to be a bit fatigued and not push himself too much. Just enough to win.
Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Dan Evans v Karen Khachanov
Round two in Vienna brings us Dan Evans against Karen Khachanov. A very interesting matchup on paper that should give us plenty of great rallies. Both of their previous matches went to three sets and we might see something similar here.
They were both indoor matches so that indicates another similar one. So Evans has been rather good in the previous weeks. Overall a 33-25 record and a quarter-final in Antwerp last week. Khachanov did not do so well in Antwerp but he’s good this year with a 34-23 record overall.
Both generally do really well indoors posting winning records in the majority of the years on the surface. Evans won both matches though so that’s something to indicate a slight matchup advantage. Khachanov can get frustrated at times and that’s something Evans will know how to exploit.
When it comes to this one, I think the over is a good option.
Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Taylor Fritz v Denis Shapovalov
Another superb round-two matchup between two very good players who know each other well. The stakes are far higher for Fritz who is battling for a spot in Turin and he’s the favourite to take this one. They’ve played plenty of times before with Fritz leading 5-2.
One of those came earlier this year in Tokyo and Fritz proved better in three sets. Some of their matches were short but generally, it’s quite competitive and I do think this one will be as well. Both have played well recently and they know how to attack each other.
Fritz is favoured but I’m not sure if he’ll win this one because at times he looked really shaky against Nishioka. Shapovalov can certainly beat him on his day and to me, this looks like a long and gruelling match between the two. Take the over.
