Iga Swiatek v Caroline Garcia Head to Head
The tally stands 1-1; they last met in the 2022 WTA Warsaw where Garcia handed the Pole a rare defeat in 2022 to reach the semifinal.

Swiatek Starts Strong
Playing in her second WTA Finals, Iga Swiatek is off to a much better start than she had last year.
She met Daria Kasatkina in the opener and stormed past her 6-2, 6-3, without as much as breaking a sweat. It was a routine, clinical win for the 21-year-old Pole, who is now 65-8 in 2022.
Swiatek arrived in Texas well-rested, ready to cap the year on a positive note. She reached the final in her last three tournaments – the US Open, WTA Ostrava, and the San Diego Open – going the distance in two of them.
If her opening-round win over Kasatkina is any indication, she is certainly well-positioned to go the distance. The match lasted for 83 minutes and saw Iga win an impressive 82% of the points behind the first serve with 22 winners – compared to Kasatkina’s 4.
That said, she committed 18 unforced errors, which may not be forgiven when she takes on Garcia.

Garcia Beats Gauff
Caroline Garcia means business – as evident from her 6-4, 6-3 win over Cori Gauff in the Group Tracy Austin round. Like Swiatek, she too was slightly aggressive, having committed 23 unforced errors but dishing out 12 winners.
Looking at her season, Garcia has had quite a spell. She is the current #6 – which is commendable when we see that she started the year outside the top 70.
The first half of her season was largely uneventful. It wasn’t until June that she started showing improvements, beginning with her title run in Bad Homburg. That kickstarted a resurgence that resulted in late-round showings in Lausanne, Palermo, and the US Open.
Caroline also took home trophies from the Poland Open and Cincinnati Open.
It is also worth noting that she is one of the few players in 2022 to have beaten Swiatek – let alone do it on her home turf in Warsaw. Can she pull it off again?
Swiatek v Garcia Prediction and Tip
Swiatek is the heavy favourite once again and should do well to win this one, albeit with some resistance from Garcia. Expect a cracking affair.
