Novak Djokovic v Quentin Halys Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2015 Australian Open and Djokovic had won that in straight sets.

Djokovic Cruises Past Constant

Having gone into his first round encounter as Constant Lestienne as a 1/33 favourite to win it, Djokovic lived up to those odds as he cruised into the round of 16.

Djokovic was on court for an hour and 16 minutes before romping past Lestienne 6-3, 6-2 to enter the second round.

Facing just one break-point in the encounter – which was incidentally the first of the match against either player – Djokovic broke his opponent three times from the eight opportunities he got.

He also won 86% of his first serve points while dropping only a fourth of his second serve points too.

Things could get slightly more difficult as the tournament grows older but for now Djokovic has looked like he’s picked up from where he had left off last season when he won the ATP Finals.

Halys Surprises Thompson

It’s not that Halys doesn’t like playing in hardcourt competitions but based on how things panned out last season he does prefer the indoor hardcourt tournaments.

Combine that with the fact his first round opponent is a local, it might have made bookmakers pin him at 11/10 – a slight underdog – to win his first round encounter.

Jordan Thompson, however, failed to withstand Halys’ fury as the Frenchman served up 14 aces and won 90% of his first serve points to carve out an impressive win. Halys came through 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 17 minutes to set things up against Djokovic.

Coming up against the 21-time Grand Slam winner, Halys will hope he can use his serve to try and push his opponent. This, against a player, who is widely known to be one of the best receivers of serves in the world.

Djokovic v Halys Prediction and Tip

Djokovic is a whopping 1/50 to win this and that’s no surprise. What we think could happen is for Halys to push Djokovic in one of the sets because of his serving and even force a 7-5 or a 7-6 sort of a scoreline in it.
