Laslo Djere v Maximilian Marterer Head to Head

Djere and Marterer have played once on the ATP Tour back in 2018. The Serbian defeated Marterer in a Round of 16 match in Umag in straight sets.

Djere Impressive In His Win Over Molcan

Laslo Djere played superbly in his opening match on Monday, beating World No. 50 Alex Molcan in straight sets. The manner of the 6-2 6-4 victory was very surprising considering that Djere lost to the Slovak last season on his beloved clay courts.

On his first outing of 2023, Djere was untouchable on his serve, hammering down 12 aces, and winning 83% first-serve points. In fact, in a very dominant first set, Djere lost just two points behind both his first and second serves.

While Molcan is more at home on clay courts, he came into the match as the higher-ranked player and in slightly better from 2022. But Djere who is also a handful on quick surfaces used his as a platform to dictate the rallies and finish off points at will.

This is Djere’s third visit to Pune, but he has never gone beyond the second round in his last appearances. Will the third time be the charm for the Serbian World No. 70?

Marterer Sends Ymer Packing

Maximilian Marterer was a player who a few seasons ago was destined to reach the Top 20. He rose as high as No. 45 in the rankings, but a series of injuries have hampered his progress on the main tour.

Marterer has since been working to restore his ranking to inside the Top 100, having played a lot of Challenger Tour events since his return from injury.

In Pune, the German lefty came through qualifying, beating Prajnesh Gunneswaran and then Nikola Milojevic. And he drew a fellow qualifier in the main draw in the shape of Elias Ymer.

The pair of them had met on the Challenger level three times before, including their most recent clash in Helsinki last year which Marterer won comfortably in straight sets.

But Ymer found his mojo after dropping the first set. He converted the only break point in the second set to force a third. But it was Marterer who looked fresher in the decider as he raced to a 4-0 lead with an insurance break. Ymer’s best hopes to salvage the match proved futile.

Djere v Marterer Prediction and Tip

Djere looked in control and played a near-perfect match against Molcan in his first outing in two months. While Marterer would be at an advantage owing to his additional playing time in Pune, the Serbian should be a good value for money to win this contest.
