Elena-Gabriela Ruse v Na-Lae Han Head to Head

It’s 1-0 to Ruse; the two last met in the 2019 ITF Yokohama semifinal, where the Romanian won in straight sets.

Ruse Coming off an Eventful Spell

Elena-Gabriela Ruse, currently ranked World No. 131, arrived in Thailand following a good couple of weeks in the Land Down Under.

Partnered with Marta Kostyuk, she made it to the semifinal in the women’s doubles of the Australian Open, losing ultimately to the pairing of Katerina Siniakova and Barbora Krejcikova. Nonetheless, the four wins she picked up en route with Kostyuk should do well for her confidence and momentum.

On the singles side of things, it’s been a bleak picture for Ruse as she struggles to grab wins. In the Slam, she fell to Selena Janicijevic in the qualifying round. Before that, the 25-year-old participated in the ASB Classic, where she made it as far as round two (as a qualifier) before losing to Karolina Muchova.

Last May, Elena peaked at the #51 spot in the singles ranking. Her form has taken a sharp drop since owing to her injury – but now it seems like she is getting back on track.

Han Seeking first Tour Win of 2023

Na-Lae Han has featured in two tournaments but hasn’t managed a main-draw win on the WTA circuit yet.

In her defence, the first was an ITF event in Canberra, where she lost to Katie Boulter in round one. Her next tournament was the Australian Open, where she lost to Anastasia Tikhonova in the second qualifying round. However, credit where it’s due, the 30-year-old beat Viktoria Kuzmova in the preceding match.

The 30-year-old left-handed player largely stuck to the ITF circuit last season, where she reached four finals – going the distance in two of them. She won the event in Monastir and, most recently, Yokohama.

Ruse v Han Prediction and Tip

Ranking just 23 odd places below Ruse, Han will fancy her chances of causing an early upset and taking advantage of her opponent’s poor singles run. It is going to be a massive challenge as Elena-Gabriela is a formidable opponent who will be more confident now.

The odds are in favour of Ruse.
