Monteiro Looking to Snap Losing Run

The Brazilian number one Monteiro is on a protracted losing run at the moment.

Excluding qualifiers, it is necessary to go back to the first round in Gijon last October to find the last time that he won a match.

His year began with losses to Casper Ruud and Matteo Berrettini in the United Cup.

He was then beaten by Jiri Lehecka in the first round in Auckland and by Constant Lestienne of France at the same stage of the Australian Open.

A switch to his favourite surface of clay in Cordoba last week did not bring a change of fortune.

He won the first set of his first round match with Federico Coria of Argentina on a tie-break, but then his form deserted him and he would only win three more games in the match,

Cachin Looking for Last Year’s Form

Cachin had a very successful season in 2022 on the Challenger tour, reaching eight finals, all of them on clay, and winning four of them, the most recent in the Dominican Republic last August.

That enabled him to break into the top 100 for the first time in his career, whilst he made his Grand Salm debut at the French Open as a Lucky Loser.

He would go on to reach the third round of the US Open where he created a unique piece of history, becoming the first person to win a five set match under the new 10 point tie-break rule.

However, his 2023 campaign has yet to get going, and he has lost every match he has played so far,

That sequence included three straight set defeats in Australasia – beaten in the first round in Adelaide, Auckland and the Australian Open.

He then suffered defeat in the one Davis Cup match he played, and his losing run continued in Cordoba last week, going down to the Bolivian Hugo Dellien, again in straight sets.

Monteiro v Cachin Prediction and Tip

The good news for one of these two is that there has to be a winner, which will mean an end to their losing run.

Neither man is likely to be filled with confidence right now, which means that the match could be a scrappy affair. However, because Cachin will be playing in front of his home crowd, the local support might just give him the lift he needs.
