Rune Scrapes Past Shelton
It turned out to be a far more of a fighting match for Rune than he would have expected in round one of the competition as he needed two hours and 22 minutes to get past Ben Shelton.
The fourth seeded Rune frittered away a set-point in the first set before clinching a place in the second round 6-7 (7), 6-4, 6-2. And while he did find things difficult throughout the encounter, Rune was broken just one time in the match.
All three of the break-points he faced also came in the first set before he found his rhythm and won 95% of his first serve points in the second and third sets.
This comes on the back of a semifinal appearance at the Rotterdam Open for Rune and a fourth round show at the season’s first major in Melbourne. By the looks of things, Rune hasn’t yet found his rhythm in the season but a couple of strong performances could change that around.

Borges Registers Win over 432nd-Ranked Player
Borges himself has only recently shot to the eyes of the tennis fan with his climb up to his career-best ranking of 85th in the world. So it would have been a surreal feeling to go into a first round match in a tournament at this level as a 1/10 favourite to win it!
That’s exactly how things went for Borges who faced American 30-year-old Nick Chappell, a player who has never gotten better than 329th in the world in his career.
And while Borges did have his moments where things didn’t go too easy, he wrapped up the match in straight sets. On court for an hour and 48 minutes, Borges won 6-3, 7-6 (3) to make the second round.
This follows his title win at the Monterrey Open last week, and a second round appearance at the Delray Beach Open starting out as a qualifier.
Can Borges now take that step up and make life difficult for his 10th-ranked opponent here?
