Tommy Paul v Mackenzie McDonald Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2020 Acapulco Open and Paul had won that in three sets.

Paul Benefits from Mmoh Injury
Paul had gone a set up against Michael Mmoh in his second round encounter and four games into the second set it was two games all when his opponent suffered an injury. Mmoh was forced to retire from the match, giving Paul a semi-free passage to the quarterfinal.
This follows a straight-set win for Paul in the first round too, with the American having gotten past Emilio Gomez earlier. He had won 6-1, 7-6 (4) to set up the Mmoh meeting.
What this win did was to give Paul his first look at back to back wins this season other than his stunning Australian Open run. At the season’s first major he had made the semifinal with wins over Jenson Brooksby, Roberto Bautista-Agut and Ben Shelton.
Other than that, however, Paul’s had won and lost one match apiece at both, the Adelaide International and Delray Beach Open.
Can he now make it three in three?

McDonald Routs Nakashima
Brandon Nakashima has been tipped for great things in the future but had come into this tournament on the back of no wins all season. A first round victory over Daniel Altmaier would have given him some hope but McDonald easily took that away from him.
In a second round match lasting a mere 66 minutes, McDonald registered a crushing 6-2, 6-0 win over the fellow American to make it to his second successive quarterfinal. He had earlier stormed into the Delray Beach Open semifinal two weeks ago.
Faced with just one break-point in the entire match, McDonald saved it easily and went on to win 72% of all the points on serve. On the other hand, Nakashima’s corresponding figures lay at a lowly 43%.
That meant McDonald also earned himself 12 break-points of which he converted five.
McDonald now has a bigger challenge on his hands but given how he has gone all season, having registered 11 wins to just five losses, he could well fancy his chances here.
Paul v McDonald Prediction and Tip
