Who is Playing at the 2023 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells?
The 2023 BNP Paribas Open will feature a 96-player draw in both the men’s and women’s sections. Although the draw is yet to be released at the time of writing, the player list is now confirmed.
Perhaps the biggest news from the men’s side is the absence of Novak Djokovic. Unlike last year, Djokovic has withdrawn before the draw is released after his waiver request against Covid-19 vaccination was rejected by US authorities.
Carlos Alcaraz will play for the first time since his Rio Open loss to Cameron Norrie. The Spaniard pulled out from Acapulco due to an injury last week. Rafael Nadal won’t return to the desert this year as he continues rehabilitation for his leg injury.
For the women’s side of things, the top 20 is almost at full strength. Only world No. 19 Simona Halep misses out. Her doping suspension is still unresolved.
12 players will join from the qualifying draw on both tours. Five wild cards have been confirmed for the men’s, which includes former champion, Dominic Thiem. On the women’s it is seven, with the American contingent benefitting from the lot.
