Jelena Ostapenko v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head

It’s an advantage of 4-1 to Ostapenko although, she did lose their last meeting to Sasnovich in the 2022 Ostrava Open 2-6, 2-6.

Sasnovich Beats Kanepi

Aliaksandra Sasnovich, World No. 44, started her campaign in Palm Springs with a 6-3, 7-6(5) win over Kaia Kanepi in the opener. The match, which went on for an hour and 40 minutes, saw the Belarusian benefit several times from her opponent’s errors. On the whole, the 28-year-old won only 59 percent of the first service points.

This kind of performance may not float by against Ostapenko, but Sasnovich did create a precedent in Ostrava late last season. That said, her recent form makes this a difficult task.

She arrived in the States with a record of 3-6 with her best results being round two appearances in Dubai and Melbourne.

Aliaksandra’s losses in 2023 have come against a pool of mixed players, comprising Coco Gauff, Rebecca Marino, Mirjam Bjorklund, Jessica Pegula, Anna Kalinskaya, and Kanepi.

Ostapenko Coming off an Eventful Start

2021 semifinalist Jelena Ostapenko has started the year on a shaky note. The current World No. 25, who has enjoyed a bye into round two, is at a decent 9-6 but a good chunk of those victories came during her quarterfinal stint in the Australian Open.

The 25-year-old dismissed Dayana Yastremska, Anna Bondar, Kateryna Baindl, and Gauff to register her best results of the season.

Since then, Ostapenko has lost in the second round in Abu Dhabi and Doha and made it to round three in Dubai most recently.

As a former top 10 player, Jelena has a rich pedigree and good experience. On paper, she should do well to beat Sasnovich with ease, but in reality, anything can happen. After all, she did lose to Kalinskaya, Irina-Camelia Begu, and Qinwen Zheng in 2023.

Ostapenko v Sasnovich Prediction and Tip

At 2/1, Sasnovich makes for a good underdog bet and punters may want to consider this. That aside, Ostapenko remains the favourite to win albeit, she may be tested.
