Anastasia Potapova v Xiyu Wang Head to Head
This will be their first meeting on the WTA Tour.

Wang Finding her Rhythm
China’s Xiyu Wang, age 21, arrived in Palm Springs on the back of a rough patch. Two months in, her record stood at 1-5, with a first-round win in Merida against Alison Riske-Amritraj being her sole highlight.
On Wednesday, she registered her second victory of the season after a two-hour marathon with Olga Danilovic. Wang won the match 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, dishing out 8 aces and winning 71% percent of the points behind the first serve.
Despite a slow start, she finds herself ranked #59 – just 10 places shy of her career-best ranking.
Last season, she closed at an impressive 41-25 – which allowed her to reach the top 50 after starting the year in the chasms of mid 100s.
There’s still work to be done, of course, seeing that Xiyu has lost to the likes of Kimberly Birrell, Lin Zhu, and Nuria Parrizas Diaz in the past few weeks.

Potapova at a Career High
21-year-old Russian Anastasia Potapova is enjoying a wonderful start to the 2023 tour. She is now World No. 28 – a career-best ranking for her – with all signs indicating that she is poised to move up further.
Last month, she picked up her second WTA title by beating Petra Martic in the final of the Linz Open. In the same tournament, she also defeated Lucia Bronzetti, Jule Niemeier, Anna-Lena Friedsam, and Marketa Vondrousova.
That result was preceded by a quarterfinal showing in Lyon. Most recently, Anastasia made it to round two in Austin before bowing out to Katie Volynets. All in all, she is now 11-6 in 2023.
In her last two times in Indian Wells, Potapova never made it past the first round. This time, she has been seeded #26 and given a bye.
