The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the two 23 year olds.

Third Successive Indian Wells Second Round Appearance for Spaniard

Davidovich-Fokina was the recipient of a first round bye in Indian Wells.

The Spaniard has been in reasonable form in  2023 so far, having reached two quarter-finals already, in Auckland and, more recently, in Doha, where he was eventually beaten by Felix Augur-Aliassime.

From there he made the short trip to Dubai, where he lost to the eventual finalist Andrey Rublev, after a hard fought three set battle.

This will be his third appearance in Indian Wells and he has made the second round for the past two years.

That is by no means his best performance in a Masters’ event. That came last year in Monte Carlo, when he reached the final only to lose to Stefanos Tsitsipas. That, though, was on his favourite surface of clay.

Dallas Winner Wu Beats Another Spanish Player

Wu has already made history this year by becoming the first Chinese player to win an ATP title in the Open era by beating John Isner in the final in Dallas, but he has his sights set higher than that, and marked his Indian Wells debut with a come from behind win.

He was actually the slight underdog going into his match with Jaume Munar of Spain, the world number 58, but there was little to choose between them in the first set, with the pair swapping an early break, before it eventually went to a tie-break.

Wu earned a set point for himself, could not convert it, and, instead it was the Spaniard who claimed the set.

The loss of that set, though, did not seem to faze Wu in the slightest, as he galloped through the second without dropping a game.

The third set was much more tightly contested, with Munar going a break down only to immediately respond with a break of his own.

In the end it came down to another tie-break to decide the match, Wu was faultless on serve, Munar dropped two of his own, and, in the end, that was the difference.

Davidovich-Fokina v Wu Prediction and Tip

Davidovich-Fokina should not be underestimating Wu, knowing what a dangerous opponent he can be. However, the Spaniard is the more experienced when it comes to playing in major tournaments, and he will be looking to turn that to his advantage in this match.
