Magda Linette v Evgeniya Rodina Head to Head

It is 2-0 to Linette; she picked both those victories in 2018 in Bogota and Tianjin.

Linette at a Career High

Despite a lack of results in the last couple of tournaments, Poland’s Magda Linette finds herself ranked World No. 19 – a first for the 31-year-old.

It is an impressive feat, given that she was ranked outside the top 45 when she started the season. This tremendous leap has been made possible owing to her semifinal results in the United Cup as well as the Australian Open, where she beat Caroline Garcia, Anett Kontaveit, and Karolina Pliskova, among others.

Since then, however, Linette’s form has taken a slight hit as the best she has done is reaching the quarterfinal in Merida – before losing to Rebecca Peterson.

In Austin and Indian Wells next, she lost her opening-round bout – respectively, to Varvara Gracheva and Emma Raducanu.

Magda has never made it beyond the second round in Miami. However, this time, she is starting with a bye directly, so perhaps, she can manage a win?

Rodina, Playing under PR

Former world number 67, current #369 Evgenia Rodina of Russia is playing professional tennis after a hiatus of over two years. She returned to the scene only in the US Open last season, where she beat Martina Trevisan in the opener.

Since then, the 34-year-old has played only in four tournaments – including the Aus Open and BNP Paribas Open – and picked up just two wins.

In Indian Wells, she did upset Alize Cornet in the opener before losing to Aryna Sabalenka. In Miami, Rodina started with a resounding 6-3, 6-4 win over Bernarda Pera.

Linette v Rodina Prediction and Tip

Linette is undoubtedly the heavy favourite here, but those who like to back underdogs may want to consider Rodina. Granted that compared to Linette, Evgeniya hasn’t had a star-studded career with plenty of trophies – but she is experienced and can hold her own against the Pole. Of course, a lot of it also depends on how Linette plays – and if her recent form is any indication – she must brace for resistance.
