Keys is 10-4 in 2023

Madison Keys will be making her 12th appearance in Miami. In her past 11 appearances she has reached the quarterfinals just once and that was in 2016.

In her last four appearances, the world no. 21 has not gone past the second round, falling in the round of 64 in all the four occasions. She begins her 2023 campaign in the second round. Will she be able to go past it this time around?

Keys has a season record of 10-4. She had a brilliant start at the United Cup, winning all five of her matches. The 28-year-old then made it to the third round of the Australian Open and also reached the last eight in Dubai, where she beat Caroline Garcia and Victoria Azarenka in the earlier rounds.

Most recently, Keys featured in Indian Wells but had to pull out of her opening match in the round of 64 due to illness. The American had lost the first set against Sorana Cirstea but couldn’t continue.

She will be hoping to make up for the setback in Miami. Can she get off to a god start?

Montgomery Rallies Past Bogdan

World no. 193 Robin Montgomery came back from a set down to beat Ana Bogdan in three sets on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old wild card conceded the only break of the first set as the world no. 60 took a one-set-to-love lead. However, Montgomery clawed her way back in the match, getting the solitary break of the second set and then broke the Romanian twice in the final set to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Montgomery served 8 aces but also double faulted 10 times in the match, however, she won 81% points on the back of her first serve, and saved 7 of the 8 break points that she faced. She had three breaking opportunities in the match and she capitalised on all three of them.

With the win, she is 9-7 across levels this season. Her best was a run to the final of an ITF event in Orlando in January. Having registered her first WTA 1000 victory, she will be hoping to build on it now.
