Pedro Cachin v Chun-hsin Tseng Head to Head

There have been no previous meetings between these players at the highest level but they have faced off on the Futures circuit and in a Challenger tournament. Both were won by Tseng including once on clay.

Cachin’s Won Just Two Matches This Season

It’s a surprise that Cachin’s ranking hasn’t taken a huge tumble this year because he has really struggle to notch up any kind of results so far.

In fact till before he shifted to the Challenger circuit last week at Girona, the Argentine had won a mere two main draw matches all year. He had started the year off on a five-match losing streak before winning his first match of 2023 in Buenos Aires against Thiago Monteiro.

Cachin lost the very next match before going on another three-match losing streak.

A win over the perennially struggling Nikoloz Basilashvili broke that streak but Cachin then another couple of matches before entering the Girona Challenger.

After edging out his opponents in the first two rounds Cachin was a favourite in the quarterfinal there against Jesper De Jong but fell in straight sets. And that would be slightly worrisome, given his overall set of results this year.

Tseng Has Slid Down the Rankings

Only last year had Tseng broken into the top 100 of the ATP Rankings charts. He had reached a career-best of 83rd in the world before ending the season at 115th.

Unfortunately for him, Tseng has been unable to carry the momentum forward and has had a rather underwhelming season to add on to what he had managed last year.

The Chinese Taipei player did kick-start his 2023 campaign by featuring at the highest level but a string of poor results – he lost four matches in a row in Pune, Auckland, Melbourne and Dallas – forced him to play in the Challenger competitions.

Even there, he has managed a couple of quarterfinal appearances in hardcourt competitions but the transition to clay hasn’t been the greatest. Tseng made the second round at Zadar and was then knocked out of the opener in San Remo last week.

Can he put up a fight against Cachin?

Cachin v Tseng Prediction and Tip

We could be looking at a straight-set win for the clay-court specialist Cachin despite his poor form given his opponent’s struggles in recent times.
