Dolehide Making Her Third Appearance in Charleston
Caroline Dolehide will be making her third main draw appearance in Charleston. The American had lost in the second round in 2018 and in the opening round in 2021.
This year she brings a 7-7 season record into the tournament.
Dolehide’s best run at the tour level in 2023 saw her go from the qualifiers to the quarterfinals in Monterrey, where she defeated Jule Niemeier and Anna Karolína Schmiedlová in straight sets in the main draw. Zhu Lin eventually ended her run in the last eight.
Since then, the world no. 163 has not played in a main draw of a tournament. She featured in Indian Wells qualifiers, but lost in the second qualifying round.
Earlier this year, Dolehide had reached the last eight of an ITF tournament in Orlando.
The 24-year-old is better known for her doubles game and may find things tough in the initial rounds in singles in Charleston.

Lisicki Qualifies with a Comeback Win
2009 Charleston Open champion Sabine Lisicki will be playing in the tournament for the first time in four years. The German made it to the main draw by scoring a come-from-behind win over Poland’s Katarzyna Kawa in the second qualifying round on Sunday.
Lisicki, who had beaten Yuriko Miyazaki in the first qualifying round in straight sets on Saturday, needed two hours and 48 minutes to dispatch the world no. 235, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.
This is Lisicki’s first tour-level tournament this year. She played in two ITF tournaments earlier, reaching the quarterfinals in Mexico city and the semifinals in Orlando. Overall she is 9-2 this year from all her matches.
The 33-year-old former Wimbledon finalist has won four titles over her career, with the first coming in 2009 in Charleston when she defeated Carolina Wozniacki for the title. Plagued by injuries in recent years Lisicki has played very little over the last four years.
She will be happy to return to the main draw of an event where she is a past champion. This will be her eighth appearance in Charleston. Besides winning the title on her debut, she was also a quarterfinalist in 2012. Can she carry the momentum of the qualifying rounds into the main draw?
Dolehide v Lisicki Prediction and Tip
Despite being the former champion, Lisicki may struggle against the American in the opener. She hasn’t competed in a tour-level event for a while, while Dolehide has already featured in a quarterfinal this year. The American has also played against tougher opponents this year and that should help her in the opener.
