Somewhere around June last year, Stearns was ranked outside the top 500. Flash forward to nine months later and she is knocking on the doors of a top 100 spot and that has been down to her solid performances on the ITF circuit.

The clay court swing is upon her now and while again, it’s not her most favourite, we know she has found a way to get around it in the recent past.

Vicens Mas Qualifies for Maiden WTA Event
While she has played in WTA 125 events before this, it will be the first time that Vicens Mars will be seen on a WTA 250 competition court. And she has earned it rightfully.
After winning an ITF title earlier this year, Vicens Mars also showed what she is capable of by entering the final of two other such events. All three were played on clay, further underlining her proficiencies on this surface.
In order to make it to the main draw at this competition, Vicens Mars had to overcome Nefisa Berberovic and more vitally, the 1/3 faavourite Iryna Shymanovich in her qualifiers.
And now she faces another in-form player in the first round. Will Vicens Mas’ natural clay-court solidity help her cause another upset?
