It took Pigossi some time and three sets but eventually she managed to clinch her place in the quarterfinal with a three-set win over Natalija Stevanovic.
The world number 101 made it through to the last eight with a 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 win in a match that lasted three hours and 19 minutes.
In both the first two sets, the pair earned a break of serve apiece to take them to five games apiece before one of them got away with the set by breaking their opponent once more.
The decider saw something similar repeat as Pigossi went 2-0 up before losing her serve in the very next game. It looked to be headed to a tie-breaker but this time around as Stevanovic served to stay in the match at 4-5, Pigossi shrugged off a game-point and broke her opponent to clinch the match.
This win followed Pigossi first round victory over Antonia Samudio in a match that went on for a mere 63 minutes. Quite a contrasting set of wins these for the Brazilian player.

Jones Surprise Quarterfinalist
She is ranked 817th in the world but Jones has played like she would if she was 149th – that’s her career-best ranking. Because in back to back matches, the Brit has carved out straight-set wins to reach the quarterfinal of a WTA event for the first time in her career.
Jones, who had shocked Nuria Parrizas-Diaz in the first round 7-6 (3), 6-1, came through in the second round against Carol Zhao in straight sets too.
This time around she needed a mere hour and 11 minutes to register the victory, claiming a place in the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-1 win.
The match was littered with breaks of serves with 10 of the 15 games seeing service breaks. Jones lost her own serve on three occasions but with her opponent winning just 17 of her 52 points on serve this match was headed only one way.
