Alcaraz Extends Win Streak

Carlos Alcaraz got off to a flying start on his Rome debut as the 20-year-old knocked out fellow Spaniard Albert Ramos Vinolas in straight sets in the second round on Saturday.

The world no. 2 was broken in the very first game of the match but he slowly found his footing and took control of the proceedings. He broke the world no. 72 twice in the first set and twice in the second for a 6-4, 6-1 victory.

With the win, Alcaraz, who will become the world no. 1 next week, extended his current win streak to 12 matches. He had come into the tournament by clinching back-to-back titles in Barcelona and Madrid.

Alcaraz is 30-2 overall this year, with his only defeats coming in the final in Rio and the semifinal in Miami.

The 10-time tour-level champion has won four of the five finals he has featured in this year and that includes titles in Indian Wells and Buenos Aires.

Alcaraz is 20-1 on clay this year and in all likelihood that record will improve further on Sunday.
