Milos Raonic completed a straightforward 6-4, 6-3 win over Jan-Lennard Struff in their fourth round match at the Indian Wells Masters on Wednesday. The 13th seeded Raonic will now take on Miomir Kecmanović in his next round.
The first set went to serve in the first eight games before Raonic finally broke his opponent for the first time to take a crucial 5-4 lead. And he then served it out with aplomb to pouch the first set.
It was way easier in the second for Raonic. Jan-Lennard Struff lost his very first serve in the second game of the set and looked like he was going to get broken for the second time when he fell 15-40 down in the fourth game.
The German came back to clinch that game but Raonic had no difficulties with his holds in turn. Following that, Raonic continued to hold with ease and while Struff never lost his serve again, he was pushed the distance every time.
Raonic’s next opponent is the unseeded Kecmanović, who was up a set against Yoshihito Nishioka before his Japanese opponent retired from their encounter because of an injury.
Kecmanović might have been on his flight back home after losing his second qualifier last week. A late withdrawal of Kevin Anderson allowed him a place in the second round from where he has now won three matches in a row to make it through to the quarter-finals.
Interestingly, it was only earlier this year that Kecmanović won his first ever match at the ATP level.
