Andrey Rublev v Laslo Djere Head to Head
Across all levels of tennis, these two have faced off five times including twice on the Challenger circuit and Rublev leads 4-1. Djere’s only win over Rublev came in the 2016 Cortina Challenger while the Russian has won their last three matches, all of which came last year.

Rublev Hoping to Improve on Madrid & Rome Reverses
Rublev surprised quite a few with his title win at the Monte-Carlo Masters, which was his fourth tournament win on clay but just the first on the ATP Masters 1000 series.
The Russian, however, hasn’t managed to continue in the same vein since then while still being reasonably solid.
He made the final at the Banja Luka Open as well, but lost to Dusan Lajovic in a shock result. And then at both, the Madrid and Rome Masters, Rublev made the fourth round but went down to players who had come into those matches as second favourites.
It was Karen Khachanov who got the better of Rublev in Madrid but even more shocking was his defeat to Yannick Hanfmann in Rome.
Can Rublev put all of that behind him and get down to the business going deep into the French Open like he had last year when he made the quarterfinals?

Djere Strong on Clay This Season
Djere loves his time on clay and he has been a top-30 player at one point in his career. He also enters this tournament on the back of his best showing for the season when he reached the fourth round of the Italian Open a few days ago.
Wins over Constant Lestienne, Botic van de Zandschulp and Cristian Garin helped him make the round of 16 in that tournament before Casper Ruud got the better of him.
Earlier in the year, Djere had also finished a runner-up in another clay-court event on the Challenger circuit. This came in Cagliari, and it was Ugo Humbert who had ended his stay there.
What’s good to also note is Djere has a couple of wins against top-10 players on clay – including Dominic Thiem when he was at his best. Both came in 2019. Earlier this season, Djere had stunned Casper Ruud at the Australian Open as well, all of which points to the fact he could prove to be a potent threat here.
Rublev v Djere Prediction and Tip
While Rublev will be a favourite here, he won’t be too chuffed starting out against a tricky opponent like Djere. We could see Djere shave a set off Rublev here.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Rublev to win the first set AND Rublev to win the match: 1/2
- Moderate Risk Tip: Rublev to win AND Both players to win a set: 6/5
