Victoria Azarenka v Dominika Cibulkova Head to Head
The two ladies have a history that goes as far as 2006. Since then, they have met each other 12 times on the tour and the tally is currently at 7-5 for Azarenka. Their last four meetings have been won by Cibulkova although, two of those were walkovers.
They have also met twice in the Miami Open 2011 and 2012 wherein, it was Azarenka who prevailed in three tricky sets.
Azarenka Needs to Find Her Groove
Azarenka has quite a history at the Miami Open, having won that tournament thrice in her career. In fact, the last singles title she won on the tour came in Miami itself back in 2016.
Since then, her form has taken a toll owing to a host of reasons. Even though she stayed in the top 100 for most of the time, it wasn’t really enough for her. With a dearth of singles title and a lack of consistency, Azarenka’s comeback on the tour hasn’t gone according to the plan.
Considering the present season, her win-loss record is at 4-5, with her best run coming in Acapulco where she reached the quarterfinal. In the Australian Open and Auckland, she lost in the first round while in the Indian Wells, she succumbed to Serena Williams in the second round.
Cibulkova’s Form Woes
Cibulkova, who won the WTA Finals back in 2016, has had a far worse time on the tour than Azarenka. While her Belarusian counterpart hasn’t performed on the singles circuit, she did win the doubles title in the Mexican Open.
However, Cibulkova hasn’t had any sort of reprieve. It was only in Dubai that she scored her first win of the season, defeating Lara Arruabarrena in the final. In Indian Wells, she enjoyed a bye into the second round but ended up losing to Bianca Andreescu in the opener.
The Slovak’s last discernible run on the tour came back in 2018 when she reached the quarterfinal in the Wuhan Open and China Open.
Victoria Azarenka v Dominika Cibulkova Predictions & Tips
On one hand, Cibulkova has been quite clinical every time she has played against Azarenka this decade. However, given her recent form, that may not be the case this time around.
This fixture can go either way but Azarenka will start as the favourite.
