Pedro Cachin v Jaume Munar Head to Head

This is an interesting if one-sided rivalry. There have been six previous meetings between these two players but none of them have come at the highest level.

And Munar has won every single time.

Cachin Sends Bautista-Agut Out

We never expected it to be an easy round for Roberto Bautista Agut despite the Spaniard starting out a 7/10 favourite in his second round encounter against Cachin. And Cachin showed why it is never easy to get past him on clay as he came away a straight-set winner over him.

Cachin won 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3) in a match lasting two hours and 13 minutes to reach the quarterfinal of an ATP event for the first time this season.

Bautista-Agut was 3-0 up in the first set but that was the last time he held a convincing lead in the encounter as Cachin clawed back with a break in the fifth game. He then saved four more break-points in the eighth game and grabbed the first set in a tie-breaker.

In the second, neither player was able to get past the other’s serve – in fact there were no break-points on offer. And then the tie-breaker brought Cachin the same result as he went from 2-2 to 6-2 and clinched it off his second match-point.

He will now aim to win three matches in a row for just the second time this year as he takes on Munar, having done that in Madrid in May.

Munar Shocks Stan

Stan Wawrinka has slowly and steadily begun to show he can sew together successive wins this season but it wasn’t to be in Gstaad as Munar sent him packing from the tournament in the second round.

The former Grand Slam winner lasted less than an hour and a half on court losing to a rejuvenated Munar 7-6 (3), 6-1.

Munar was up a break early in a topsy-turvy first set but once Wawrinka had found his footing he was soon 5-2 up. In fact, Munar faced a set-point off his own serve before breaking Wawrinka in the ninth game as the Swiss player looked to serve for the set.

The tie-breaker proved to be a straightforward one and so did the second set in which Munar broke his opponent twice and sealed his place in the last eight.

Can Munar now make it three wins in a row, having done that in Santiago and Madrid earlier this year?

Cachin v Munar Prediction and Tip

Cachin will hold the edge in this one despite his poor record against Munar and this could be his chance to finally clinch one against the Spaniard.

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Cachin to win: 1/1
