Brandon Nakashima v Max Purcell Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two and it was Nakashima who had come away a winner in the 2022 Los Cabos Open.

Nakashima Has Done Well in Atlanta in the Past

Having featured in this competition twice before this, Nakashima has made the final on one occasion and was a quarterfinalist here last season.

That said, Nakashima is struggling to stitch together wins on a regular basis this season and won just seven of the 20 matches he has played this year. And only three of those wins have come in hardcourt competitions – his favourite surface – to go with five defeats.

The only thing that Nakashima has been consistent is in going out of tournaments early never made it past the second round of hardcourt competitions and lost in the openers at two of them. He also enters this competition on the back of three successive defeats.

Which is why, coming into this tournament in Atlanta, Nakashima will hope for a restart to the season. And win a couple of rounds for a change.

Purcell on a Four-Match Losing Streak

He has hit a career-high ranking of 62nd and while Purcell has fallen to 74th, he would consider that is par for the course. What’s probably not so much of an easy thing to accept is the losing streak that Purcell is on at the moment.

The Aussie has lost four matches in a row including three in three on grass and while he has done remarkably well on the Challenger circuit Purcell has won just two main draw matches at the highest level.

Speaking of the Challenger circuit, Purcell has notched up three title wins there – one of only four players to have done that this season. All three of them have come in hardcourt competitions but the big question is whether he can translate that to something special at the highest level.

Purcell is up against a player who has looked vulnerable on court and this will be his chance.

Nakashima v Purcell Prediction and Tip

Nakashima is a 3/10 favourite but it might not be that easy for him. Expecting a three-set encounter or two hard-fought sets here.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 1/1
