Humbert Deals with the Constant Problem
Constant Lestienne wasn’t a favourite at all going into his first round match at the Atlanta Open but after taking the first set against Humbert and quelling his opponent’s advantage on two separate occasions in the second, it looked like he could actually overturn the 2/1 odds against him.
In fact even after winning the second set, Humbert looked to be in a soup when he fell 3-5 behind in the decider.
While Humbert held on to his serve to love, he still had to break Lestienne. Once he had done that though, he quickly wrapped things up with another break of serve in the 12th game of the set.
It wasn’t Humbert’s best performance of the season for sure but two hour and 32 minutes into the contest, he would have felt relieved to have made it through to the second round. More so because his win-loss record in hardcourt tournaments this year was 5-5 coming into this.
Can he now overcome the resurgent Harris?

Harris Continues to Exhibit His Capabilities
Having eased past Donald Young in the first round of qualifiers, Harris was then taken to a third set tie-breaker in the second qualifying round by Michael Mmoh.
Not that it mattered too much to the bookmakers who had installed him as a 2/5 favourite coming into his first round match against James Duckworth. But again, it wasn’t as easy as that for Harris, who had returned to competitive tennis earlier this year after a bit of an injury layoff.
The former world number 31 came back from being a set down to overcome Duckworth in nearly two hours.
Harris won 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to make it 14-7 in hardcourt competitions this season (which includes his performances in Challengers and qualifiers as well).
And now taking on Humbert, Harris actually starts off as a bit of a favourite at 4/5 because of the form he has shown all season.
