Head-to-Head: They have never met before

World no. 65 Tatjana Maria of Germany stormed into the quarterfinals with a straight sets drubbing of Clara Tauson.

The first set was a tight one with the Dane going up a break twice, but the German broke back on both the occasions and then got a third break to take a one-set-to-love lead.

Maria dominated the second set and dropped just 12 points to win the match 6-4, 6-0. The german had also won the opening round match in straight sets, handing Natalija Stevanović a 6-3, 6-1 defeat in the second round.

The German, who won the Bogota title this year, will be aiming to reach a second tour-level semifinal of the season on Friday.

Facing Maria will be world no. 174 Rebecca Sramkova, who knocked out second seed Karolína Muchová 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 in the round of 16 on Thursday.

Sramkova had beaten Poland’s Weronika Ewald 6-2, 6-2 in the first round. She is now on a four-match winning streak, having also won the qualifying rounds against Naiktha Bains and Maddison Inglis respectively.

Lucrezia Stefanini v Laura Siegemund Preview

Head-to-Head: It will be a first meting between the two.

Italy’s Lucrezia Stefanini needed just an hour and 11 minutes to beat Britain’s Jodie Burrage 6-4, 6-1 in the round of 16 on Thursday.

Stefanini, who has won two ITF titles this year and finished runner-up in another ITF tournament, had beaten seventh seed Linda Fruhvirtova 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).  Can the Italian reach her first tour level semifinal of the season?

Facing the 25-year-old will be the 35-year-old Laura Siegemund, who knocked out China’s Zhu Lin 6-4, 6-4 in the second round on Thursday. The german had also won her first round match in straight sets, beating Maja Chwalińska 6-4, 6-1.

Siegemund, who has a 2-1 record in WTA finals, has not featured in a quarterfinal at a WTA tournament this year. It’s her first of the season and she will be looking to go deeper with a win on Friday.

Lucrezia Stefanini v Laura Siegemund Tip

Siegemund is the more experienced player, but Stefanini has shown better consistency this year, although most of those wins have come in the lower level. Expect a good game. Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6

Yanina Wickmayer v Heather Watson Preview

Head-to-Head: Wickmayer leads the rivalry 3-2. The Belgian the first three matches between them in 2012 and 2013, while Watson won the last two matches in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

World no. 109 Yanina Wickmayer breezed past Tereza Martincová in the second round of the Poland Open on Wednesday to reach her first tour level quarterfinal of the season. The Belgian, who has mostly played at the ITF circuit this year, improved her season record to 40-12 across levels following a 6-2, 6-2 win over the Czech.

Wickmayer, who has won three of her four ITF finals this season, had begun her campaign with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Nao Hibino in the first round.

She will be up against Heather Watson, who needed three sets to end qualifier Yuliya Hatouka’s run in the tournament. The world no. 146 Watson saved 4 of 8 break points and converted 7 of 17 to beat the world no. 240, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.

Watson had beaten third seed Kateřina Siniaková 7-5, 6-2 in the first round.

Wickmayer has displayed better form this year and she could topple the Briton to move into the semifinals. Wickmayer to win: 2/3
