Johanna Konta v Dayana Yastremska Head to Head
The two ladies have met before on the WTA circuit.
Konta Looking to Build Some Form
Konta’s form over the last few weeks has been quite impressive, as she reached the final in Rabat and Rome. She followed it with a breakthrough performance in the French Open where she reached the semifinal.
Currently World No. 18, the British has always enjoyed playing on grass and considers it to be her favourite surface. However, her performance in Birmingham last week told a different tale.
The 2017 Wimbledon semifinalist was one of the favourites in Birmingham but lost to Jelena Ostapenko early in the second round. The tournament in Eastbourne, however, is likely where she is going to stage herself before the action starts in Wimbledon.
Through the years, Konta has reached the semifinal here twice and has a decent record, defeating Ostapenko, Angelique Kerber, Petra Kvitova, and Ekaterina Makarova. Only time will tell how far she will go, given that she has is placed in a highly competitive and strong field.
Yastremska on the Rise
The Ukranian may be just 19 years old but so far this season, she has really impressed the spectators. With a strong right hand and some dedicated tennis, Yastremska won two singles titles in 2019 so far: the Hua Hin Championships and WTA Strasbourg.
In the process, she defeated some experienced players and picked up valuable lessons against Samantha Stosur, Aryna Sabalenka, Garbine Mugurza, and Ekaterina Alexandrova. While she hasn’t been consistent throughout the year, Yastremska has certainly had her moments.
She is starting as a qualifier in Eastbourne after moving past Freya Christie and Viktorija Golubic in straight sets in the qualifiers.
Konta v Yastremska Predictions & Tips
Konta will start as the favourite here but it won’t be an easy win for her. The young Ukranian is fierce, strong, and will pose a lot of hurdles for the Brit. Konta needs to play this one carefully with some spirit and focus. Being the local hero and residing in Eastbourne, she will also have the crowd support as she steps on the court on Sunday.
Tip: Konta to win 2-1. (888Sport)
