The road to the final is an interesting one which sees a few teams get a direct entry into the finals week and 24 others fighting it out for the remaining 12 spots. These 18 teams will then fight it out to make it to the title-decider that will be held in Spain on November 24.

2019 Davis Cup Schedule & Dates
The first round of Davis Cup matches, i.e the Qualifiers for the final, will be played in the first week of February. 24 teams will feature in this phase of the tournament and 12 of these teams will make it to the Davis Cup finals.
The Davis Cup Finals will be played between November 18 and 24. The group stage of this finals will see the 18 teams, divided into six groups and eight of these teams will advance to the quarter-final stage. This will be followed by the semi-finals and final, all in the span of a week and at the same venue, the Caja Mágica in Madrid, Spain.

Six teams have been given a direct entry into the finals, which includes the four semi-finalists from the previous Davis Cup and two wild-card entrants. 12 others will qualify from a list of 24 teams who will be a part of the competition during the Qualifiers played in February.

What Happened at the 2018 Davis Cup?
It was Croatia who won the title last year and they did so by defeating France in the final, 3-1.
France, who were seeded number one in the competition after having won the title last year, defeated the unseeded Netherlands in the first round 3-1, before getting past the eighth seeded Italy by the same margin. In the semi-finals, they did not have any issues either, having taken a 3-0 lead on day two itself, before losing the meaningless reverse singles matches to Spain.
Fourth seeded Croatia overcame Canada and Kazakhstan by the same 3-1 margin before USA pushed them to the fifth match of the semi-final. This was after Croatia had taken a 2-0 lead and then lost it to go into the final match at 2-2.
