John Isner v Kyle Edmund Head to Head

The pair have met three times so far on tour. The American leads the tally at 2-1. Isner won on the clay courts at the 2016 French Open and on the hard courts of Miami last year. Edmund, on the other hand, won at the US Open in 2018.

Isner Struggling for Form Ahead of the Australian Open

After losing all three matches at the ATP Cup, the 34-year-old American finally managed to win his first match of the season in the first round at Auckland. Even that wasn’t easy as he had to dig deep against the world number 101, Tennys Sandgren.

The American will be hoping to regain some form ahead of the first Grand Slam of the year. A tournament where he has crashed out in the first round in the previous two occasions.

Last year was a mixed bag for Isner. He started the year off impressively by making it to consecutive semifinals at New York, Delray Beach, and Acapulco. Shortly after that, he had an amazing run at the Miami Masters, where he reached the finals.

Soon after, he won his only title of the year at Newport as well. But the second half of the season wasn’t as impressive. He could not manage to reach the semifinals at any of the events post-Newport. As a result of this, he has dropped to 20 in the world rankings.

Edmund Coming off a Disappointing 2019

After winning his maiden title, breaking into the top 15 in the rankings, and becoming the British number one male player in 2018, the 25-year-old had a rather forgettable 2019. His overall win-loss record was 22-23, and he only made it to one semifinal in the year.

This run included a terrible phase where he crashed out in the first round at seven consecutive tournaments. He did show some signs of improvement at the end of the year, where he won five out of the last six matches during the Paris Masters and the Davis Cup.

Due to the poor season he had, his rankings have fallen from 14th in the world to 69th at present. He will be hoping to take inspiration from his 2018 run at the Australian Open, where he reached the semi-finals.

John Isner v Kyle Edmund Predictions & Tips

This is a match between two players looking to find some form ahead of the Australian Open. Isner just managed to win his first match of the season, whereas Edmund’s game has improved with each match he has played this season. A lot will depend upon whether Isner can continue serving a high percentage of first serves as he did in the first round.
