Rafael Nadal v Federico Delbonis Head to Head

This will be the third  meeting between Nadal and Delbonis, with the world number one having won all three thus far.

Nadal Looking To Coast To Next Round Before Draw Toughens

After a stellar 2019, where he won two Grand Slams, bringing his count to one behind Roger Federer’s all time record of 20 majors, world number one Rafael Nadal began 2020 looking for similar fortunes.

Although a finalist at the inaugural ATP Cup, Nadal will be less than happy with a loss to David Goffin and particularly a straight set loss to Novak Djokovic in the final tie, with Serbia prevailing as a result.

Nadal’s Australian Open got off to a clinical start with a routing of clay court specialist Hugo Dellien as the world number one conserved energies for what is a relatively tough potential second week ahead, given the tricky draw handed to him.

Against old foe Debonis, Nadal will be looking to continue his form and coast to the round of 32 without much ado.

Can Delbonis Stop The World Number One?

Left handed Argentine Federico Delbonis has been on the tour for most of the last decade and was ranked as high as world number 33, in 2016.

The winner of two ATP titles in 2015-2016, as well as the Davis Cup (in 2016), Delbonis is not quite the player he was as he approaches the age of 30 and is now ranked number 76 in the world.

With a dismal 2018-2019 season that saw his results below his potential, Delbonis did not get off to the best of starts in 2020 either.

The Argentine was a qualifier at the Adelaide International last week and lost to Australian Jamie Duckworth in the second round of the main draw. Delbonis looked in good form in his opener here in Melbourne with a straight sets win over Portugal’s Joao Sousa.

Rafael Nadal v Federico Delbonis Predictions & Tips

Despite his experience and regardless of his current form, Delbonis will know only too well that he has his work cut out in his second round encounter against Nadal.

The Spaniard knows his opponent’s game and it is not one to bother him much, if at all. Nadal will look to take off from where he left off in his opener and can be expected to register another straight sets win.

Tip: Nadal to win in straight sets: 1/7 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
