Owing to the slow-playing clay surfaces and the seven rounds required to win the tournament, French Open is considered to be one of the most physically demanding tournaments in the world.

Annually played in Paris, the tennis at Roland-Garros draws in scores of spectators and world class tennis athletes, who are looking to become better players by competing on a tricky surface and there are millions of others who tune in online to watch Roland Garros live streaming for all the key matches.

Typically, the French Open tennis tournament is preceded by a series of clay tournaments, all meant to build momentum and help players get accustomed to the clay surface.

This year, because of the unusual circumstances, the French Open will be played at a later date with a fewer build-up competitions before it. Live streaming of all those clay events including the French Open can be watched using the methods mentioned below.

Interestingly, majority of these tennis tournaments in the ‘French Open’ series are premier level events, offering a 1000 points to the victor.

These tennis tournaments are Monte-Carlo Masters, Madrid Open and Italian Open, and are in no way any less intense and demanding than the Roland Garros.

These events, along with other 250 and 500 series tennis tournaments, are played across Europe itself but this second Grand Slam of the year is the big prize and the French Open live streams are much-sought after as a result of this.

What Happened at the 2022 French Open?

Rafael Nadal kept piling on the records at Roland Garros as he clinched the men’s singles title for the 14th time in his career. It also meant it was his 22nd Grand Slam victory, the most by any male players.

In the final, Nadal routed first-time finalist Casper Ruud 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 to clinch the tournament win after having also got past Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals and Alexander Zverev in the semifinals. Zverev had to retire from his match following an ankle injury and did not play for the rest of the season.

The women’s singles title was won by Iga Swiatek, defeating Cori Gauff in a one-sided final 6-1, 6-3. With this win, Swiatek moved to 35 successive wins at the highest level.

Swiatek lost just one set in the entire competition and more vitally dropped a mere 12 games across the quarterfinals, semifinals and final.

Defending champion and second seeded Barbora Krejcikova lost in the first round, making it just the third instance of that happening at Roland Garros.

The 2021 edition of the French Open was won by Novak Djokovic, who stunned Rafael Nadal in the final of the men’s singles competition. On the other hand, the women’s singles final was clinched by Barbora Krejcikova, who overcame Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the title-decider.

While Rafael Nadal continued his dominance at the French Open in 2020 as well, the women’s side of things saw a new champion emerge in the form of youngster Iga Swiatek.

Nadal shrugged off the rustiness which was evidently on show in the tournament leading up to the French Open to register a crushing, straight-set win over Novak Djokovic in the final.

On the other hand, Swiatek didn’t drop a single set in the entire tournament to capture the title by thumping the Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin in the title-decider.

Ash Barty and Rafael Nadal won the women’s and men’s singles titles respectively at the 2019 edition of the tournament.

At the 2018 French Open, the men’s singles draw was dominated by the Spaniard Rafael Nadal yet again as he made it two in two years and 11th title overall at the French Open, crushing Dominic Thiem in the final, 6–4, 6–3, 6–2.

In doing so, Nadal joined Margaret Court as the only other player to have won as many as 11 titles at a single Slam but more so the first to do it in the Open era.

Nadal’s only loss of a set came against Diego Schwartzman in the quarter-final but apart from that blemish, he ran through the competition with the consummate ease one associates with him at this Grand Slam. In doing so he finished the tournament as the top-ranked ATP player.

Roger Federer withdrew from the tournament before it began while Novak Djokovic went down to Marco Cecchinato in the quarter-finals. Juan Martin del Potro was the other semi-finalist.

Top-seed Simona Halep won the women’s singles title, which turned out to be her first ever Grand Slam title while defending champion Jelena Ostapenko was dumped out in the first round of the tournament.

Halep defeated Sloane Stephens in three sets in the final after having overcome Garbine Muguruza in the semi-finals. Stephens had beaten Madison Keys in the other semi-final.

Serena Williams entered the tournament on a Protected Ranking and made the fourth round before having to withdraw from her match against Maria Sharapova. Sharapova was crushed in the last-eight encounter by Muguruza.

Angelique Kerber, Yulia Putintseva and Daria Kasatkina were the other players to have made the quarter-finals.
