Kiki Bertens v Bianca Andreescu Head to Head

The two players have never met before on the tour.

A Positive Start for Bertens

Enjoying a bye into the second round, Bertens started her campaign in this year’s Canadian Open Toronto with a straight-set, clinical win over Francesca Di Lorenzo. She dismantled the American qualifier with 6-2, 6-1, to book the third-round clash with Andreescu.

It was business as usual for the Dutch, who has won an impressive 41 matches as of now this season while losing only 15 in the process. Bertens has also added two more titles to her name, with the most recent one being the Madrid Open. Additionally, she has also reached final of two other tournaments.

Currently enjoying life as World No. 5, Bertens has been one of the few players on the circuit who has played with such finesse and consistency this season. Just most recently, she was the runner-up in the Palermo Open, incurring what was a shocking defeat in the final to Jil Teichmann.

That defeat certainly counts as an aberration in the way she has played this season. Most of the losses that the number five seed has incurred so far have been at the hands of top 10 players only.

Andreescu, Sailing High on Confidence

One of the reasons why this match is going to be a blockbuster affair is because of the form Andreescu is in right now. The 19-year-old Canadian has a strike rate of 34-4 this season, including her wins in Toronto.

She was practically an unstoppable force up until the Miami Open, where she was forced to take some time off the tour to recover from a shoulder injury. Andreescu returned to action in the French Open but had to quit her campaign early, sparking injury concerns once again.

However, in a remarkable fashion and to a certain extent, bit cinematic too, the Canadian staged a stunning comeback in her home tournament in Rogers Cup. Starting with Eugenie Bouchard, she moved past Daria Kasatkina in the second round in three sets.

With Indian Wells Open title and a litany of penultimate runs already to her name, it will be interesting to see how she faces Bertens – a player who has been equally clinical, if not more, this season.

Bertens v Andreescu Prediction & Tips

Expect three sets in this match. Andreescu has clearly proven that the age is not a factor for her, having defeated the likes of Angelique Kerber, Caroline Wozniacki, Venus Williams, and Elina Svitolina so far on the tour. Bertens, on the other hand, will relish this challenge and seek to add another win to her name.

Tip: Three sets in the match. (888Sport)
