Latest Madrid Masters Betting Tips for 2023

Madrid Open Betting Tips & Predictions

Mutua Madrid Open, more commonly known as the Madrid Open and Madrid Masters, is one of the most important clay tournaments on the circuit, right after the French Open. The event was founded back in 2002 and is one of the most sought-after tennis tournaments in Spain. Over here, you will get the latest 2023 Madrid Masters betting tips & predictions.

The tournament is of great importance for both – men and women. A total of 1,000 ranking points are up for grabs in the two halves and that kind of win can place you in a rather comfortable draw for the Roland Garros.

Needless to mention, this ATP Masters 1000 and the WTA Premier Mandatory event will be attended by some of the most renowned names on the circuit. Right from when it began all those years ago, it has always been a part of the Masters series, and seven years after it started, it included the women’s tournament as well.

The competition is owned by Ion Tiriac, a former ATP player himself and now, a Romanian billionaire.

Interestingly, he had brought blue clay to the tournament, and one of the editions, in 2012, was hosted on the changed colour. However, the move wasn’t welcomed by some of the top players and the competition was reverted back to its original clay colours.

We will update all the latest WTA Madrid Open and ATP Madrid Masters tips, predictions and odds below.

What Happened at the 2023 Mutua Madrid Open?

The event started with an incredible line-up as usual and through the way, fans got to witness several twists and turns. All in all, it was a highly entertaining affair.

Women’s Half

Ons Jabeur took advantage of Iga Swiatek’s absence in the tournament to win the title by defeating Jessica Pegula in the final. Jabeur won 7-5, 0-6, 6-2. In doing so she became the first player from the African continent to win a WTA 1000 tournament.

Aryna Sabalenka had won women’s singles title at the 2021 Madrid Open when she stunned Ash Barty in the final. Such was Sabalenka’s form, the only set she dropped was in the final to the top seeded Barty.

There was no competition held in 2020 because of the pandemic.

Kiki Bertens, who had lost in the final of the 2018 edition of the competition to Petra Kvitova, defeated her in 2019 in the quarterfinals, got past Sloane Stephens in the semifinals and then crushed Simona Halep in the final to win the Madrid Open title. Halep needed three sets to get past Belinda Bencic in the other semifinal.

The other losing quarterfinalists were the top seeded Naomi Osaka, ninth seeded Ash Barty who would later go on to win the French Open title and Petra Martic.

Angelique Kerber, Karolina Pliskova and Elina Svitolina did not even get past the second round.

Men’s Half

It was Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz who continued with his brilliance as he lifted the 2022 title by overcoming Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev in the tournament. Alcaraz would later rise up to the world number one position in the rankings after winning the US Open.

Alcaraz routed Zverev 6-3, 6-1 in the final to lift the trophy.

This was after Alexander Zverev had won the 2021 edition of the Madrid Masters in a hard-fought final against Matteo Berrettini. It lasted three sets.

The 2020 edition of the Madrid Masters got cancelled because of the pandemic, while Novak Djokovic got the better of Stefanos Tsitsipas in the 2019 final to lift the trophy at the Madrid Masters.

He was a 6-3, 6-4 winner in the final, and clinched the title without dropping a set in the entire tournament. Earlier he had needed two tie-breakers against Dominic Thiem in the semis and had a walkover from Maric Cilic in the quarterfinals.

Tsitsipas stunned the second seeded Rafael Nadal in the semifinals, after having gotten past Alexander Zverev in the quarters. Roger Federer made it as far as the quarterfinals but went down to Thiem while Stan Wawrinka was the other quarterfinalist who lost to Nadal.
