This Masters tournament is typically played right after the Indian Wells and it generally sums up the high octane tennis action in the United States for the first half of the year. In 2021, however, the Indian Wells Open was postponed and the Miami Open was played in the third week of March.

Considering the fact that the stakes here are the same as that in Indian Wells, the tournament is attended by a lot of star players from men’s and women’s half.

But apart from the high quality tennis games, the Miami Masters is also known for its grueling conditions in the form of extreme heat and humidity. Over the years, many players have succumbed to such harsh conditions, while many have overcome them in great style.

The Miami Masters or the Miami Open is played as a part of the ATP 1000 and WTA 1000 tennis tournament series on outdoor hardcourt surface.

Watch the Miami Masters live streaming where some of these top players will look to showcase their speed, stamina and athleticism along with their wonderful tennis skills to try and go the distance.

2023 ATP & WTA Miami Open Schedule & Dates

The tournament usually takes place immediately after the Indian Wells Masters and Indian Wells Open and the 2023 edition of the Miami Open will begin from March 22 and will go on till April 2.

The qualifiers and round one matches will be played over the first three days before the seeded players from both sections of the draw, men’s and women’s will start taking taking court – usually from Wednesday and Thursday of the week.

This 38th edition of the tournament will be hosted at Hard Rock Stadium after its move from the Tennis Center at Crandon Park.

The exact schedule and the order of play on daily basis for the ATP Miami Masters and WTA Miami Open will be updated just before the start of the tournament and the Miami Masters live streaming options mentioned below will be updated accordingly as well.

What Happened at the 2022 Miami Open?

Carlos Alcaraz overcame Casper Ruud in the final of the 2022 Miami Masters to win his maiden Masters 1000 title. The duo would meet again in the US Open final later that year with Alcaraz winning again to capture the world number one ranking.

The Spaniard won 7-5, 6-4 against Ruud after having sent the defending champion Hubert Hurkacz packing in the previous round. Hurkacz had earlier upset the top seeded Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals.

Iga Swiatek coasted to a 6-4, 6-0 win over Naomi Osaka in the final of the WTA Miami to complete the Sunshine Double after having also clinched the Indian Wells Open two weeks earlier.

Swiatek raced to the title win in such fine fashion that she lost just 26 games spread across 12 sets in six matches in the lead-up to her tournament win.

Osaka, who was ranked 77th in the world, became the lowest-ranked player to make it that far at the WTA Miami Open.

The men’s singles title at the 2021 Miami Open was won by Hubert Hurkacz who was winning his first ever Masters 1000 tournament. Hurkacz defeated Jannik Sinner 7-6 (4), 6-4 to lift the men’s singles trophy.

In doing so he also became the first player from Poland to win a Masters 1000 competition.

The 20th seeded defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev in consecutive rounds to make the final.

Ash Barty made it two tournament wins in Miami in a row when she routed Biana Andreescu in the title-decider to lift the trophy. She was 6-3, 4-0 up in the final when Andreescu retired from the encounter because of an injury.

The top-seeded Barty did have some difficulties in getting past Victoria Azarenka in the fourth round before needing another three-setter against Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals.

The 2020 edition of the Miami Open was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Roger Federer and Ash Barty were the winners of the 2019 edition of the Miami Open. While Federer crushed an injured John Isner in the final, Barty was a straight-set winner over Karolina Pliskova to clinch the title.

At the 2018 Miami Open, John Isner defeated Alexander Zverev in the final of the men’s singles draw in three sets to win the title. He lost the first set on a tie-breaker but won the next two 6-4, 6-4 to clinch his first ever Masters 1000 victory.

What was interesting to watch was that Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer lost in round two of the tournament after getting first round byes while Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal withdrew from the tournament. This meant that none of these Big Four won a single match in the tournament.

Federer was dumped out by Aussie qualifier Thanasi Kokkinakis while Djokovic didn’t even win a set in his defeat at the hands of Benoit Paire. In the semi-finals, Zverev overcame Pabloa Carreno Busta while Isner shocked favourite Juan Martin del Potro.

The women’s singles title was won by Sloane Stephens who scraped past Jelena Ostapenko in the first set of the final before crushing her 6-1 in the second. Interestingly, none of the other seeded players even made the semi-finals with Victoria Azarenka, a wild-card and Danielle Collins, a qualifier having made the last-four stage.

Karolina Pliskova, Angelique Kerber, Elina Svitolina and Venus Williams were all taken out in the quarter-finals while defending champion Johanna Konta lost to Venus Williams in round four.
