Zverev Makes A Third Successive Return to Acapulco

Alexander Zverev began his 2020 season in terrible form at the inaugural ATP Cup, going down 0-3 in all his singles rubbers. That prompted a reaction from the Germany team captain Boris Becker, who admitted they exchanged ‘some serious words’ off the court.

Becker explained that Zverev was unprepared for the newest team tournament, and had not trained well enough during the winter break. However, ‘harsh words’ were exactly what Zverev needed, and the German youngster showcased his mettle at the 2020 Australian Open with a brilliant run to the semifinals.

That last four showing in Melbourne was the best he had ever attained at Grand Slam level, before deciding to take a deserved extended break from tennis following his four-set defeat to Dominic Thiem.

Zverev is returning to Acapulco for the third time in his career, and this time he is looking to better the previous two results. He made the semifinals on his tournament debut, and last year he fell to an inspired Nick Kyrgios in the final.

Jung’s Late Resurrection?

Jung has been on tour for a while now, having first started playing in 2005. He has never won an ATP title, never broken into the top 100 but in more recent times Jung has shown enough form to raise hopes of a late-career resurrection.

For instance, he came through the qualifiers at the New York Open to make the main draw and then beat Kevin Anderson, Cameron Norrie and Reilly Opelka to finish as a semifinalist. A first round loss to Noah Robin at Delray Beach followed but he has done well here to make it to the main draw here following a couple of wins in the qualifiers.

This comes on the back of a couple of impressive years for Jung at the lower circuit but getting past the world number seven could be a bridge too far.

Alexander Zverev v Jason Jung Predictions & Tips

After Jordan Thompson pulled out of this competition and was replaced with Jason Jung, a qualifier, he would start off as a heavy favourite. A straight-set win can be expected out of this.
