Dimitrov Struggling to Find Consistency This Season

Last season there were 15 events where Dimitrov failed to win more than one match. Even though his impressive semi-final runs at the US Open and the Paris Masters suggested that he was back to his best, the inconsistency in his game has continued to trouble him this season.

At the start of 2020, he lost two out of the three matches in the ATP Cup and lost one at Kooyong exhibition. Even post that he crashed out in the second rounds at the Australian Open & Rotterdam while losing in the first round at Montepellier. Having won his first match this week in Acapulco, he will be keen to progress further than second round for the first time in the season.

He was as high as world number three at the start of 2018. But early-round exits and failure to defend points from an amazing 2017 season meant that he dropped to as low as 78 last year. Currently ranked 22 in the world he will be hoping to recapture the form that he showed three years ago and break into the top 10 once again.

Mannarino’s Underwhelming Form This Season

The Frenchman’s first-round win over Cameron Norrie came as a welcome relief to him as he has been in a terrible run since the end of last season. He lost three out of the four matches at the end of last season. At the start of the new season, he lost five out of the first six in 2020.

This run has come on the back of almost two impressive seasons. In 2018 & 2019 he reached a total of five ATP finals and won his maiden title at Hertogenbosch as well. He achieved his career-best ranking of 22 in the process and despite the current poor run is still in the top 50. But if he wants to maintain that ranking he will have to start getting more victories soon.

Mannarino will hope he can change things around against a player who has himself had struggles because if the current slide continues for a while he could start losing points and rankings rapidly.

Grigor Dimitrov v Adrian Mannarino Predictions & Tips

This is a match between two inconsistent players who are struggling for form. Dimitrov has won four out of the last nine matches whereas Mannarino has only won twice. But the first-round win for the Bulgarian should settle his nerves and he is likely to progress further easily.
