John Millman v Nikoloz Basilashvili Head to Head

This will be the fourth time that the two players will be meeting each other in a competitive match. The Georgian has won twice whilst the Australian won once. One of those matches were at the 2018 Paris Masters where Millman had to retire after the first set.

Current Australian number two and one of the most powerful servers in the game, Millman would be hoping that he brings his A-game on the court in the first round. For someone with such a potent attacking game, the 31-year-old has never won an ATP title and has only reached two finals in a 15-year long career.

Millman started off this year with solid performances at the ATP Cup, Auckland and the Australian Open where he won two matches each. But his form dipped off post that as he went out at the first hurdle in the next two tournaments.

Things picked up in the Davis Cup where he won both his matches before the season was suspended. He played his first competitive match post the season restarted at Cincinnati.

Millman has fond memories at the Flushing Meadows where he beat Roger Federer on his way to a quarter-final run.  He will be hoping to find the consistency that has been missing from his game this year and take advantage of a relatively easier side of the draw.

Out of Sorts Basilashvili Needs a Lucky Break

When Basilashvili won the German Open in Hamburg two years ago, he became the first Georgian to win an ATP event. That coupled with consistent performances got him to as high as world number 16 last year. But since then, his form has gone off the boil.

The 28-year-old has played in seven events this year, failing to win more than one match in all of them. Since the season resumed, he has played three matches, losing all of them in straight sets. He looked short of match fitness in the first round match against Felix Auger-Aliassime in the first round at Cincinnati and will have to improve a lot to have any chance of progressing against Millman.

He has performed admirably at the US Open in the last two years, reaching the round of 16 and third round respectively. What he needs right now is a bit of luck to go his way and he will be hoping that it starts against the Australian.

John Millman v Nikoloz Basilashvili Prediction & Tip

This match could be over rather quickly if Millman finds his range while serving. The only hope that the Georgian has is if the Australian is off his game and him capitalising on it. This match could see more than three sets but Millman will have more than enough in the end,

Tip: Millman to win in four sets: 3/1 (bet365)
