John Millman v Frances Tiafoe Head to Head
This will be the fourth meeting between the pair with the Australian leading 2-1. Tiafoe won their first-ever meeting at the Queen’s Club’s Grass courts back in 2016. But since then Millman has won both times on the hard courts of Atlanta in 2017 and Sydney in 2019.

The current Australian number two was up against Nikoloz Basilashivili in the first round. And the only concern that the 31-year-old had ahead of that game was inconsistencies in his serves. But on the day he looked in great form and dominated his first serve to record a comfortable win. Even though Basilashivili was the 22nd seed at the tournament and was ranked higher than the Australian, he never looked to be in the match at any point.
Millman had a bright start to the 2020 season when he performed admirably in the ATP Cup, Auckland Open and his home Grand Slam, the Australian Open. He did suffer a little blip but seemed to have recovered from it just before the season was suspended.
Millman is a 2018 quarterfinalist at the US Open and had beat Roger Federer that year as well. Some of the tennis he played in the first round was reminiscent of that and he would be hoping to replicate more of it in the second round.

Confidence Boosting Win for Tiafoe in the First Round
The American has had a tough twelve months and his first-round win against Italy’s Andreas Seppi will give him a lot of confidence. Tiafoe is a former US National Championship winner and has won five titles at the Challenger Level before breaking onto the ATP Circuit. In 2018 he won the Delray Beach Open and then reached another final at Estoril. He also reached the last eight at the Australian Open next season.
But for him, everything since that great run in Melbourne has gone downhill. He went out in the opening two rounds in 18 events last season after the Australian Open. He did reach the semi-finals at the Gen Next ATP Finals at the end of last season but that proved to be a false dawn. His start of the 2020 season was once again poor as he went out in the opening round at three consecutive events.
He also went out in the opening round at last week’s Cincinnati Masters to Andy Murray. Thus the win over Seppi in the first round will be a huge sigh of relief for the American. He will be looking to finally kick start his season and end this year on a bright note.

Millman starts as a strong favourite in this match. He outclassed his opponent in the first round and his aggressive groundstrokes combined with a strong first serve was too much on the day. Tiafoe should be feeling better after the first round win but he is likely to come up short against the Australian.
