Karolina Pliskova vs Jasmine Paolini Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.

Pliskova in a Rocky Run of Form

Karolina Pliskova through the seasons has done a splendid job of keeping herself in the top 10. As a former World No. 1 herself, she has seen her fair share of brilliant runs although, a Grand Slam still eludes here.

To make amends to that, this season, Pliskova joined hands with Sascha Baijin in the coaching department. Baijin is the former hitting partner of Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka.

By the early looks of it, the partnership may not be going that well at the moment. However, these are still early days and there is a lot to expect from here. The Czech lost to Danielle Collins in the second round of Yarra Valley Classic in straight sets – 7-6(5), 7-6(3).

The number 6 seed incurred a similar fate in the WTA Abu Dhabi in January, where she fell cheaply in the second round to World No. 292 Anastasia Gasanova.

For obvious reasons, Pliskova had a mediocre run last season – a title from the Brisbane International and the runner-up feat in the Italian Open. Apart from this, the 28-year-old also featured in the French Open and WTA Ostrava but lost in the opening rounds.

A turnaround for this world number one is much needed.

Paolini Looking to Deliver an Upset

The 25-year-old Paolini broke into the top 100 back in 2019 but since then, she hasn’t quite managed to move up in the rankings. Stuck in the 90s, Paolini has spent a lot of time in futile attempts to move up in the pecking order.

The Italian last played in the Gippsland Trophy, where she reached the third round and lost to Karolina Muchova. Nonetheless, that third-round run in the WTA 500 event marked her best performance on the tour since the quarterfinal run in the WTA Guangzhou in 2019.

That performance was much better than her run in the WTA Abu Dhabi recently, where she fell in the first round.

Paolini has played in a series of WTA and ITF events through the last couple of seasons but hasn’t been a lot successful in either of them. Last year, she played in the WTA Linz, WTA Ostrava, Roland Garros, Italian Open, US Open, and other events.

However, she never made it past the second round in any of them.

Pliskova vs Paolini Prediction and Tip

As a whole, Pliskova is obviously much more composed and coherent than Paolini. Expect the Czech to win this one easily.

Tip: Pliskova to win in straight sets: 4/11 (bet365)
