Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are obviously in opposite halves of the draw and have first round byes but it gets tough for both them from there on.
Federer takes on the winner of Daniil Medvedev and wild-card entrant Zhang Ze in round two, before his first test could come in the third round in the form of Milos Raonic. If he gets past Raonic, one of three potential tough opponents could be waiting – Diego Schwartzman, Kei Nishikori or Sam Querrey – in the quarter-finals.
Juan Martin del Potro is in his half of the draw and is a potential semi-final opponent for him before he ends up facing Djokovic if both manage to reach there.
Roger Federer’s Potential Route to Shanghai Masters Final:
Round 1: Bye
Round 2: Medvedev or Zhang
Round 3: Raonic
Quarter-Final: Schwartzman or Nishikori or Querrey
Semi-Final: Del Potro
Final: Djokovic or Anderson
On the other hand, Djokovic, after that first round bye, will be up against either Jeremy Chardy or Maximilian Marterer. Things get slightly tougher for him when in the third round his opponent could be either a 16th seeded Marco Cecchinato or Hyeon Chung.
In the quarter-finals, Djokovic could face Kevin Anderson before a possible semi-final meeting with Alexander Zverev. In the final, Djokovic will be up against Federer or del Potro if they all get there.
Novak Djokovic’s Potential Route to Shanghai Masters Final:
