Caroline Wozniacki v Laura Siegemund Head to Head

These two women have played each other once before this and that match came as recently as the 2019 Auckland Open in which Wozniacki was a 6-3, 6-2 winner.

Wozniacki Looks to Turn Poor Season Around

For the 2018 Australian Open winner to play in four tournaments this season and win not more than two matches in a row in either of those events is quite an underwhelming showing. Fitness issues have played a part in undermining the world number 13 Dane, but early defeats at Indian Wells and Miami will hurt the most.

At the Indian Wells Open especially, for Wozniacki to go down to world number 56, Ekaterina Alexandrova as early as in the second round wasn’t according to the script. It would have, therefore, come as a relief when she made the fourth round at Miami after getting an opening round bye but then a loss at the hands of Hsieh Su-Wei would have also come as a surprise.

Here, at Charleston, Wozniacki did not participate last year, having been a two-time quarter-finalist but after a first round bye she would hope she can start off with a confidence-inducing performance.

Struggles Galore for Laura Siegemund

To say that the German world number 104 has seen better days on court would be an understatement. Having held a career-best ranking of 27th in the world, Siegemund has made it to the second round in the main draw of only two WTA events – the Australian Open and here at Charleston.

Since losing to Wozniacki in that opener in Auckland – which was her first tournament and needed her to qualify for for the main draw – the German has lost in round one at Hobart, Acapulco, Indian Wells and Miami Open before finally winning a match here.

She struggled to defeat unheralded 17-year-old American Emma Navarro and to expect her to upset the Wozniacki apple-cart would probably be expecting a lot.

Wozniacki v Siegemund Predictions & Tips

This looks like a straight-set win for Wozniacki and if you are looking for a slightly gutsier call than that, it could well have a straight-set win with very few games.

Tip: Wozniacki to win 2-0: 6/5 (Unibet)
