Angelique Kerber v Karolina Muchova Head to Head

The pair have met once before, and that was as recently as two weeks ago, when, at the Miami Masters, Kerber won a second round match by two sets to one.

Top Seed Kerber Needs to Find Some Consistency

Kerber, the defending Wimbledon champion is the number one seed for the tournament, and is hoping to add to her haul of WTA titles this week. She has had her chances already this year to do so, most notably at Indian Wells where she reached the final, only to lose to Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu.

The same woman knocked her out in Miami, so it will be a consolation to the German she is not playing in this event!

Other than that, Kerber’s best result of the year came in Doha where she reached the semi-finals, but her record this year is littered with inconsistencies, losing too often for her liking to lower ranked players in the early rounds of tournaments.

She heat Muchova just two weeks ago, but knows that she is a potential banana skin she will need to negotiate.

Muchova, a Rank Czech Underdog

Muchova, the daughter of a Czech footballer, has little form to speak of coming into this tournament. Ranked well outside the world’s top 100, she has won two ITF titles, but has done little to boast of on the senior tour.

More used to having to battle her way through qualifying rounds to get to main draws, her best performance of the year came in Miami, where she managed to qualify and reach the second round, only to fall to Kerber, although she did force the German to a third set.

Those battling qualities were again in evidence on Wednesday, when she got past her first round opponent, Shilin Xu of China in a tight three-setter.

Kerber v Muchova Predictions & Tips

Kerber, the number one seed, is a heavy odds-on favourite for this match at 1/3, whilst you can get 13/5 on the Czech woman. Kerber has had problem with consistency this year, but should make short work of an opponent ranked so far below her in the world rankings.

Tip: Kerber to win in straight sets: 9/10 (Unibet)
