Caroline Wozniacki v Petra Martic Head to Head

Wozniacki and Martic have met each other a total of five times on the WTA Tour. The Dane, not so surprisingly, has been absolutely clinical in all of those matches and presently holds a 5-0 lead over her Croatian adversary.

They last met in the 2018 WTA Beijing, where Wozniacki won in straight sets and later moved on to win the tournament.

Wozniacki’s Finds her Rhythm Again

After starting the season on a gloomy note, courtesy of her illness and the consequent loss of form, Wozniacki is finally looking confident and determined once again.

She had a decent run in the Miami Open recently, where she reached the fourth round before falling to Su-Wei Hsieh. That marked the best performance of her season, up until now.

In Charleston, a place where she was the champion back in 2011, she started with a straight-set win over Laura Siegemund. After that, she moved past the likes of Mihaela Buzarnescu and Maria Sakkari to reach the semis. With the sole exception of her game against Buzarnescu, she won all of her matches without dropping a single set.

Martic Looking Clinical

Martic’s performance in Charleston is nothing short of brilliant. In many ways, it is quite unexpected as well, seeing that she won only one match in her last three tournaments.

The 2018 Bucharest Open runner-up defeated Amanda Anisimova in the first round and then dispatched Mandy Minella and Jessica Pegula. In the quarterfinal, she defeated the in-form Belinda Bencic 6-3, 6-4 to reach her first semifinal of the season.

The Croat had a decent run in the Australian Open too this year, where she reached the third round.

Wozniacki v Martic Tips & Predictions

With a 5-0 lead over Martic, Wozniacki will start this match as the favourite. She has never dropped a set against her and of late, she has been fairly impressive.

At the same time, this will be their first meeting on the clay surface and the dynamics are different here. Martic just defeated Bencic and is more than capable of repeating that result again. She will also seek solace from the fact that Wozniacki isn’t as sharp as one would expect her to be.

Tip: Wozniacki to win the match: 1/2 (betway)
