Svetlana Kuznetsova v Kristyna Pliskova Head to Head
This will be the second time that Kuznetsova and Kristyna Pliskova will meet on the WTA Tour. They last met in the 2015 Wimbledon, where the Czech won in three sets.
Kuznetsova Looking Impressive in Lugano
Kuznetsova, who is playing in her first WTA tournament of the year, has so far had a good run. She started her season with a three-set win over Ekaterina Alexandrova and then stopped Timea Bacsinzky in the second round.
These two wins although, well-deserved, haven’t been clinical. The Russian was pushed to three sets after losing the first one in both the matches.
Kuznetsov spent most of her previous season struggling with her form and as a result, she fell out of the top 100. Even though she won the Citi Open later in the year, she failed to capitalize on that win with subsequent positive performances on the tour. She lost early in many events like the Cincinnati Open, US Open, and WTA Guangzhou.
Pliskova Delivers her Best Run of the Season
Kristyna Pliskova has reached her first quarterfinal on the WTA Tour this season after defeating the likes of Ylena In-Albon and Antonia Lottner. She won these matches in straight sets and has looked quite confident throughout the tournament.
The 2017 Prague Open runner-up also reached the quarterfinal on the 125K Series circuit, most notably in Indian Wells and Guadalajara. However, she never really managed to carry that rhythm forward to upper-tier tournaments.
In Miami, she made it to the main draw as a lucky loser but lost to Ons Jabeur. In Charleston too, she incurred a similar fate and was knocked out by Kateryna Kozlova in the first round.
Kuznetsova v Pliskova Predictions & Tips
While Pliskova has more momentum on her side, Kuznetsova has a superior experience to counter it with. Even though the Russian will start this match as the favourite to win, she is not that sharp and Pliskova, with her recent wins, can very easily capitalize on that. All in all, this is an evenly matched fixture.
