Borna Coric v Jaume Munar Head to Head

These two have never played each other at the highest level before this.

Shaky Start for Coric

Seeded ninth in the competition, Borna Coric overcame Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in their first round match but it wasn’t a cakewalk by any stretch. Coric needed nearly three hours and three sets to defeat his opponent, Hurkacz 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 to make it to the second round.

And it was a match to forget for both players but specially for the higher-ranked Coric after he made nearly 100 unforced errors in it. While rain at the Monte-Carlo Masters played a part in disrupting the contest and turning it into a five-hour contest including the wait, it meant Coric had made the second round.

The result follows Coric’s quarter-final at the Miami Masters and a semi-final appearance in Dubai but he would know that clay isn’t quite his cup of tea. Not yet anyway, having had a 5-5 win-loss record on this surface last year. Can he turn this around at the Monte-Carlo Masters? Needs to be seen.

Rising Star Munar Loves Clay

It was in 2016 when the 18-year-old Munar announced himself to the world at the lower level by getting into a winning spree on clay. He won 53 matches at the Futures and Challengers level and lost just 18 to take that step up and play in the big league.

His current ranking of 61st in the world, is close to his career-best of 60th, and this could well be his season on this surface. Interestingly, in four of the five tournaments he has played on clay this season, Munar has made it to the quarter-finals and only in one was he knocked out in round two.

This is what makes him a dangerous opponent but beating Coric might be a particularly relishing option.

Coric v Munar Predictions & Tips

Coric should win this one and we think it might not even go the distance with the Croatian expected to win it in straight sets.

Tip: Coric to win 2-0: 13/10 (bet365)
